Varnado named acting FAS commissioner

By Michael Hardy

Tyree Varnado, who currently serves as assistant regional Federal Acquisition Service commissioner in the General Services Administration's greater southwest region, will take over as acting head of the national program on Sept. 21.

Varnado will succeed Barnaby Brasseux in the role. Brasseux is taking the position of deputy administrator. Former FAS Commissioner Jim Williams is now acting GSA administrator and the president's nominee to take the role permanently. However, Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) has put a hold on Williams' nomination.

Williams selected Varnado to head the FAS. "Tyree is well-respected among GSA's employees nationwide," Williams said. "Coming from one of GSA's field offices, Tyree will bring to FAS headquarters a valuable perspective as a regional leader. Tyree brings outstanding experience in delivering services to customers across all FAS business lines."

Michael Hardy writes for Federal Computer Week, an 1105 Government Information Group publication.
