 By William Welsh

Louisiana has named Edward Driesse, a technology executive with experience in the public and private sectors, to serve as its new chief information officer. Angele Davis, Louisianas commissioner of administration, made the appointment.

Previously, Driesse was CIO at the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, and before that, he was CIO at AECOM Technology Corp. of Los Angeles. In another job at Foster Wheeler Ltd., Driesse oversaw the global deployment of an integrated applications system.

As Louisianas CIO, Driesse will direct the Office of Information Technology in the Administration Division. He will serve as the lead person in the state responsible for matters related to IT and will be responsible for developing and executing IT technical and business strategy.

In addition, he will advise the governor and executive Cabinet on IT policy and the purchase and management of IT resources.

Driesse holds a bachelors degree in mathematics and a masters degree in computer sciences from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

William Welsh writes for Washington Technology, an 1105 Government Information Group publication.
