Council for Excellence in Government CEO to step down

Patricia McGinnis, president and chief executive officer of the Council for Excellence in Government, said yesterday she will leave the organization later this year. She will stay on as head of the council until a successor is named, according to CEG officials.
“In this year of change and transition, the time seems right for new leadership at the council and for me to explore new ways to continue my work in the public interest,” said McGinnis, who joined the council in 1994.
John Macomber, chairman of the council’s board of trustees, said a search committee has been formed to find a successor to McGinnis.
Macomber said in a statement that the council has become “a strong and respected voice for innovation and accountability in government” under the leadership of McGinnis and the team she built.
“The council is in a very good place as we begin to recruit a new CEO, and we are more confident than ever about the importance of our mission and our capacity to move the council’s agenda forward,” he said.
Before joining the organization 14 yeas ago, McGinnis founded the FMR Group, a public strategy firm, where she concentrated on education, energy and communications policy. During her government career, McGinnis served in the Office of Management and Budget and held senior posts at with Senate Budget Committee, and at the Commerce and Health and Human Services departments.
